| Research and Development are a tradition at Voith. Voith engineers have written and have continued to make history in their realms. Even today the numbers speak for themselves: more than half of Voith sales is from products that did not exist five years ago. Heidenheim an der Brenz, the headquarters of Voith, is the per-capita leader in patent applications in Europe. And each year, about 400 new Voith patents are added. Voith invests above average levels in Research and Development to maintain this. In fiscal year 2002/03, this amount was EUR 135 million, which was more than 4% of the sales of the producing corporate divisions.
